In this workshop, I introduced children from various tribal communities around the Wayanad district to explore zine making. 52 participants were taught how to make an 8 and a 16 page zine. The first exercise was an exploration into expressing one’s thoughts, feelings and ideas. The second exercise was conceived as a way for the participants to reflect on communicating with other extraterrestrial civilizations; a message for deep space.

Exercise 2: A message for deep space
It has been 55 years since a human being first stood on the moon.
For decades now humans have been sending messages into deep space, describing who we are, and how to find us. And while what can be transmitted is quite limited, I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of stories or ideas you would be sharing if you were given the opportunity to share your stories into deep space in the form of zines.
